Danae’ Raschard-McCain
I am a native of Jersey City, NJ, along with three brothers. We were called the four D’s — David, Derek, Danae’ and Daryn. I attended public school and graduated in 1975. In my earlier days, I was a girl scout and cadette. I worked in New Jersey with the Federal Government for 15 years.
I would later relocate to Washington, DC. This journey was not of my choice, but one of desperation. I decided long before my journey to Washington, DC, that I was not going to become a statistic by being a pregnant mother on assistance, a drug dealer, a drug user, or inmate of Hudson County for killing my abusers.
After reaching out to a friend who lived in Washington, DC, I decided it was time to leave my only home I had known for 32 years. Kevin F. McCain was very supportive in helping me in my new journey. We were married in 1991. This journey helped me to see that there is more to life than death.
Over the years, I have experienced challenges related to my health and the workforce. But through it all, the word of God continued to assure me that I am more than a conqueror and not a quitter. Now I could walk in my calling God planned for me.
I can truly say that my journey was as a roller-coaster. My journey has allowed me to write my autobiography titled, “How Dare You.” I now realize why my journey took so many different roads that led me here. Those were the toughest times in my life, but it was all working out for my good.
I share words of life and truth to those who have experienced domestic violence as: “Danae’, The Voice of Influence.” As I continue my journey, we will see where God takes me and the reason my story lives within me.
